Liverpool aim to win £70m Alexis Mac Allister race and eye Mason Mount
Liverpool are reportedly looking to finalise a deal for Brighton star Alexis Mac Allister with a £70million for the World Cup winner. The Reds have be weak in midfield this season with Jurgen Klopp making it clear he would like to improve in the area and the Argentine could be the first addition with Mason Mount another the club are interested in.
Liverpool have failed to reach their usual standards this season with some fans and pundits pointing to the midfield area as the route of their issues. Fabinho and Jordan Henderson are starting to show signs of decline while other options like Thiago Alcantara have struggled with injury issues.
The team’s performances have improved in recent weeks with Trent Alexander-Arnold stepping into a midfield position to other more control on the ball. However, it is still clear that reinforcements are needed as the Merseysiders look to get back to challenging at the top of the Premier League.
The club have been linked with a number of names with Mac Allister the name on everyone’s lips in recent weeks. Manchester United and Arsenal were also said to be chasing the Brighton man’s signature meaning Liverpool would have some competition.
Now, the Mirror reports that Liverpool are ready to end the race for his services by offering Brighton £70m. Mac Allister is said to be ready to commit his future to the Merseysiders as negotiations continue.
The Argentine may not be the only midfielder to arrive at Anfield over the summer either. The Reds are favourites to sign Chelsea midfielder Mount with a £50m fee mooted. However, incoming Blues boss Mauricio Pochettino will have the final on the deal and may decide to try and keep the England international.
Liverpool are also said made an enquiry over last summer’s transfer target Aurelien Tchoumeni, but Real Madrid don’t want to sell.
Many of Liverpool’s current crop of midfielders will be moving on at the end of the season in order to make space for new arrivals. James Milner, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are all likely to move on when their contracts expire at the end of the season with Klopp looking to oversee a transformation in midfield.
The German had initially hoped to sign Borussia Dortmund star Jude Bellingham but was priced out of the race for the England international who is now set to join Real Madrid instead. Mac Allister has become the club’s top target in the weeks’ since and it now appears he could be closer to a move. It will be one to monitor closely in the coming weeks as the transfer window draws ever closer.
