Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp was shown a straight red card after furiously charging towards the linesman during his side’s match against Manchester City. The former Borussia Dortmund boss felt that Mohamed Salah was fouled by Bernardo Silva on the edge of the City box but a free-kick was not given.
Salah had latched onto a long pass in the City have but was bundled to the ground by Silva, with many feeling it was a tactical foul to break down the attack rather than to win the ball. However, both the referee and the linesman felt it was a fair challenge.
Klopp was understandably furious with the decision and left his area to voice his frustration, storming towards the linesman. The German then retreated to his zone, waiting for the official to run back past him.
As the pair crossed paths, Klopp leaned into the face of the assistant referee and bellowed his thoughts about the decision. Referee Anthony Taylor quickly halted play to intervene and dismiss the manager for his conduct.

Commentating on the action for Sky Sports, Manchester United hero Gary Neville said: “Look it was a foul on Mo Salah, absolutely no doubt. It all comes from that challenge on the corner from Silva on Salah, he just grabs him – how is that not a foul? The assistant referee is in front of it. Jurgen Klopp charges down the touchline, there you go, that’s the red card.”
The Reds were victorious in the heated match against title favourites City, winning 1-0 thanks to a superb solo goal from Salah. After collecting a cross, Alisson launched a long ball forward to his Egyptian teammate who, under pressure from Joao Cancelo, held off the challenge and raced towards goal.
Salah then proved that he is on his way back to his best, coolly slotting the ball beneath Ederson to send Anfield into a frenzy. It remains to be seen whether the three points against Pep Guardiola’s side will help Liverpool get their career back on track, having looked in serious danger of sacrificing their stance as title contenders prior to Sunday’s victory.
The win means that they move up to eighth in the table on 13 points, though remain 10 points behind City in second. The result means that Arsenal have extended their league at the top of the table to four points, with Mikel Arteta’s side beating Leeds 1-0 on Sunday afternoon.
