Liverpool braced for West Ham bid as Jurgen Klopp faces tricky transfer decision

West Ham could look to Liverpool’s Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to boost their midfield this season. The England midfielder is a player that Anfield manager Jurgen Klopp could willing to let go as he reshapes his squad for the new season.

Hammers manager David Moyes is considering a possible loan bid for the former Arsenal midfielder, who has spent time up front for the Reds this pre-season in Roberto Firmino’s absence.

West Ham’s prime target to replace Jesse Lingard, who they now expect to stay at Manchester United despite a successful loan spell at the London Stadium last season, is West Brom’s Matheus Periera.

The Hammers are still in talks with the Championship club over a potential £25million deal, with an initial loan deal with an obligation to buy a possibility.

Chelsea’s Ross Barkley has been looked at – but Liverpool’s Oxlade-Chamberlain, 27 is also on Moyes’ radar.

The England international has had an injury hit spell at Anfield and made only 13 league appearances last year even though he was fit for much of the campaign.

If a move is made, Klopp must decide whether or not he foresees Oxlade-Chamberlain playing a greater role than last season, or whether he can afford to give up his services.

West Ham are set to complete the signing of Rangers’ goalkeeper Brian Kinnear on a free transfer after the 20-year-old was released by the Scottish club – but the Hammers are still keen on a deal for West Brom’s Sam Johnstone.

Arsenal also like Johnstone however as a cheaper alternative to Sheffield United’s Aaron Ramsdale.

Yet West Ham are also in talks with Paris Saint-Germain over Alphonse Areola and could sign the goalkeeper, who spent last term at Fulham, on a season-long loan deal.

Areola could then compete with Lukasz Fabianski and the Londoners would have the option to sign the player permanently at the end of the season.

“I’m really lucky because we’ve got a group of lads who are right on it, foot to the metal all of the time so hopefully we keep that going.

“We’ll find out what we can do in the future but we’ve got no great update at all.”
