Liverpool can sign four players to fix problem Alexis Mac Allister does not solv

Liverpool have secured the signature of Alexis Mac Allister, though the arrival of the World Cup winner does not address all of their midfield problems. The Reds must continue to invest in their midfield ranks and the ex-Brighton star must be the first of several signings in that department.

Several sides were keen to sign Mac Allister this summer but Liverpool stole a march on their rivals by opening vigorous talks with the player from the moment that the Premier League concluded, selling the project at Anfield with plenty of success.

However, despite being a sensational coup, his Argentine heritage and 10 goals this season have prompted some to believe that Mac Allister is the No 10 that Klopp has so desperately needed. That could be limiting a truly gifted player though, with the former Boca Juniors star actually far more effective in a deeper role. He shone while playing as a No 8 in Roberto De Zerbi’s system.

If Liverpool are to get the very best out of the 24-year-old, slotting him behind a more natural attacking-minded midfielder could see him thrive. Thus, Jurgen Klopp must push for a No 10 this summer, and Express Sport takes a look at four potential candidates for the role…

James Maddison

Leicester City star James Maddison is expected to be on the move this summer after his side’s relegation, and he could be the ideal candidate to slot into the heart of Liverpool’s midfield. The England international’s creativity has made him a target of several top clubs – including Tottenham – and ridding him of excessive defensive duties could see him thrive on Merseyside.

Eberechi Eze

With Wilfried Zaha potentially departing, Crystal Palace will be reluctant to part ways with another star man. However, signing Eberechi Eze would be a sensational piece of business by the Reds and he’s worth breaking the bank for. The versatile midfielder scored 10 and assisted four for the Eagles this season, despite not being used to the best effect in the first half of the campaign.

Dominik Szoboszlai

Hungarian playmaker Dominik Szoboszlai has made it no secret that he is waiting for a call from a Premier League this summer, though his £60m release clause is far from attractive. The Red Bull Salzburg star looks destined to take the step up in his career sooner rather than later and would provide the creative spark that Liverpool desperately need, though the Anfield outfit could be put off by the hefty price tag.

Gabri Veiga

The Reds are one of the numerous clubs interested in Gabri Veiga, and acquiring his services would be both a sign of intent and also provide a blow to their rivals – such as Chelsea and Manchester City. The Spaniard thrived in a struggling Celta Vigo side with 11 goals and four assists and aged 21, his £34m release clause could prove to be a bargain.
