Liverpool ‘in talks to sign Kylian Mbappe on loan’ as PSG left fuming with star

Liverpool are reportedly in talks to sign Kylian Mbappe on loan after Paris Saint-Germain were understood to have been left fuming by the star’s decision to refuse talks with Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal. The 24-year-old appears to be on his way through the Parc des Princes exit after telling club chiefs he has no intention to extend his contract beyond next summer.

Mbappe has become one of the best strikers in world football since joining PSG from Monaco in 2017 and has bagged 212 goals and 98 assists in 260 appearances for the French giants. He had been tipped to quit Paris last year to sign for Real Madrid, but ended up agreeing a shock new deal with his current employers.

That deal was for an initial two years, with the option of staying for one more season. But PSG have been trying to cash in on the player ever since he told them he won’t be sticking around any longer than he has to.

According to The Mirror, Liverpool are ready to offer Mbappe a one-year loan deal that would net PSG some cash and allow the forward to complete his dream move to Madrid next summer. And the Reds are liaising with their French counterparts to try and thrash out a deal.

Liverpool have been encouraged over a move because of Mbappe’s respect for the club and the fact his mother Fayza Lamari, who is also his agent, is a fan of the Merseysiders.

Mbappe has confirmed in the past that he spoke to Liverpool about a move to Anfield while he was still plying his trade for Monaco. “We talked a little bit, but not too much. We talked a little bit,” Mbappe told the Telegraph. “I talked to Liverpool because it’s the favourite club of my mum, my mum loves Liverpool. I don’t know why, you will have to ask her. It’s a good club and we met them five years ago. When I was in Monaco I met them. It’s a big club.”

Earlier this month, PSG accepted an eye-watering £259million from Al-Hilal in exchange for their star man. But Mbappe was unwilling to consider the move, much to the chagrin of the French team.

PSG are desperate to avoid losing Mbappe for nothing next summer. And earlier this month, the club’s president Nasser Al-Khelaifi said: “My position is very clear. I don’t want to repeat it every time – if Kylian wants to stay, we want him to stay. But he needs to sign a new contract.

“We don’t want to lose the best player in the world for free. We can’t do that. This is a French club. He said he would never leave for free. If he changes his mind today, it’s not my fault. We don’t want to lose the best player in the world for free, that’s very clear.”
