Liverpool right to snub Jude Bellingham as FSG told to re-sign Mane

Anticipation is building as Liverpool approach the summer transfer window, where Jurgen Klopp is expected to bolster his squad after a disappointing 2022/23 season. And Express Sport readers have had their say about the Reds’ reported transfer plans.

Liverpool were widely considered frontrunners for Jude Bellingham as speculation heated up ahead of a potential Borussia Dortmund exit.

However, the Anfield giants are said to have bowed out of the running over Dortmund’s asking price, reportedly north of £130million.

It has left Manchester City and Real Madrid as favourites for Bellingham’s signature, which has frustrated some Liverpool supporters.

But Express Sport readers have predominantly sided with Fenway Sports Group on the decision, with 78 per cent of 3832 responders stating the owners were correct to snub a pursuit of the 19-year-old midfielder.

That translates to 2989 readers, while 22 per cent of the 3832 (843) readers still believe that Liverpool should’ve put all their eggs in one basket to sign him.

Liverpool will reportedly focus on recruiting multiple midfielders and also strengthen Klopp’s defensive options.

The Merseysiders have splashed £37m on Luis Diaz, £85m on Darwin Nunez and £35m on Cody Gakpo in the last three transfer windows.

However, many readers want FSG to scrap that plan and bolster Klopp’s attack by sanctioning Sadio Mane’s return just one year after he left on a free transfer to Bayern Munich.

Bayern will reportedly offload Mane this summer after an underwhelming season in Germany, and an Anfield homecoming would seemingly be welcomed.

From the 3832 responses, 21 per cent of readers (805) called for Liverpool to re-sign the Senegalese forward, more than any other single club.

Paris Saint-Germain received 18 per cent of the vote (690), while 13 per cent (498) would like to see a shock switch to Manchester United.

Real Madrid also received 13 per cent, while 11 per cent (421) fancy him to join Todd Boehly’s relentless recruitment surge at Chelsea.

But ‘other’ was handed backing from 24 per cent of readers (920), perhaps with a potential lucrative move to the MLS or the Middle East in mind.
