Liverpool team news: Expected XI vs Man City as Jurgen Klopp makes three changes

Liverpool will be looking to return to the top of the Premier League table this afternoon when they host Manchester City in a late afternoon kick-off. And boss Jurgen Klopp is likely to make three changes to the side which thrashed Porto in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

Express Sport looks at how Jurgen Klopp’s side could line-up.

Goalkeeper – Alisson

Alisson has been a rock between the sticks for Liverpool this season and has kept four clean sheets in his side’s opening six Premier League games.

He did ship three goals at Brentford last weekend – albeit through no fault of his own – and will be hoping to steer his defence to a more assured performance at Anfield today.

Defence – Gomez, Matip, Van Dijk, Robertson

Trent Alexander-Arnold played the full 90 minutes in the draw at Brentford but was a notable absentee for the midweek win at Porto.

The right-back has a groin injury, which means he will miss this afternoon’s clash.

The ageing James Milner replaced Alexander-Arnold against Porto, but Klopp could hand a first league start of the season to Joe Gomez today.

Gomez has been kept out of the team this season due to the impressive form of Joel Matip, but could be given the nod on the right if Milner’s legs can’t face a second start in five days.

Matip will line-up alongside Virgil van Dijk at the heart of Liverpool’s defence, while Andy Robertson will be named at left-back.

Midfield – Jones, Fabinho, Keita

Curtis Jones scored a contender for September’s goal of the month during his first Premier League start of the season against Brentford last time out.

And his stirring performance will see him keep his place for this clash.

Fabinho didn’t start Liverpool’s opening two games of the season but hasn’t missed a minute of Premier League or Champions League action since then. And the midfield enforcer will start once again.

Meanwhile, Naby Keita is pushing for a place after producing a number of standout displays earlier this season. The Guinea international could replace Jordan Henderson.

Forwards – Salah, Firmino, Mane

Liverpool’s tantalising frontline have had no issues finding their top gear this season.

The Reds have struck 15 Premier League goals and put five past Porto in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

Mohamed Salah has been Liverpool’s leading man this campaign, contributing eight goals in all competitions, while the rest of the side’s attack have also been chipping in.

Roberto Firmino hit a brace after coming off the bench and could be rewarded with his first start of the season.

Diogo Jota could be the man to give way for the Brazil international, with Sadio Mane providing the pace from the left.
