Long & Heggestad Earn Commissioner’s Award at MSC Football Officials Clinic

BOWLING GREEN, Ky.- Mid-South Conference football officials Chad Long and Mark Heggestad were earned the Commissioner’s Award at the MSC Football Officials clinic over the weekend.

“Each year the Mid-South Conference recognizes officials that have demonstrated not only outstanding work on the field but also those that represent our motto of ordinary things extraordinarily well,” MSC Football Supervisor of Officials John Smoot said.

With no clinic being held in 2020 two awards were handed out at the clinic. The 2020 Commissioner’s Award was presented to Long. “Chad has been a long term member of the officiating staff and is always finding ways to assist not only me but his crew,” Smoot said. “His crew chief recommended him and said he is always helping prepare game reviews, and assisting with the pre-game preparation for the crew.”

The 2021 award went to Heggestad who has been with the MSC since 2017 when the Sun division began football. “Mark has a long history of officiating at different levels and is always looking for ways to give back, improve himself and others,” Smoot added. “As an example of his dedication he developed a Mid-South play of the day this off season and he sends out a daily quiz that has grown to being shared outside of our organization including several OVC and Gulf South officials”.

“We have an extremely strong staff in the Mid-South Conference and these two individuals represent the kind of folks we have and want in the Mid-South Conference, quality officials and more importantly, quality people”, Smoot said.
