‘Looks like ultimate competitor’ Ricky Ponting heaps praises on Mohammed Siraj

India vs Australia Day 3 Live Cricket Score, WTC 2023 Final: Australia racked up 469 in their first innings and then reduced India to 151-5 in the World Test Championship (WTC) final at The Oval on Thursday. ‘Planned to bowl only bouncers to…’, India pacer Mohammed Siraj

India pacer Mohammed Siraj who was India’s most successful bowler with four wickets, said the team planned to deliver only bouncers to Australia centurion Travis Head irrespective of the outcome and there was more bounce on the pitch on Day 2 as they bundled out Australia for 469 in the ongoing ICC World Test Championship (WTC) final 2023 here at The Oval.

Australia grabbed a firm grip on the WTC final after a dramatic second day’s play against India at The Oval.

As India minimised the damage on Day 2, Siraj claimed the crucial wicket of Travis Head with a bouncer in the opening session.

“We planned and came today that we will keep attacking Travis Head with bouncers. We told ourselves that if he hits those bouncers, then no problem, but we will stick to our plan and we got our success,” Siraj said in a post-match press conference.

Legendary cricketer Ricky Ponting has highlighted the crucial key moment in which he believes India made mistakes during the opening two days of the ICC World Test Championship final but is excited by pacer Mohammed Siraj’s attitude and abilities. 

“I loved seeing that and he looks like the ultimate competitor. Maybe sometimes he gets carried away and goes a little bit over the top, but you need those guys in your side when things aren’t going well. He was the one today who said I am going to be the guy that is going to turn things around and what I loved was that his pace didn’t drop at all during the whole innings,” Ponting told International Cricket Council (ICC).

Pat Cummins led from the front as Australia ripped through India’s top order in the World Test Championship final on Thursday. Australia captain Cummins, in his 50th Test, removed key batsman Rohit Sharma as the fast bowler sparked India’s second-day slump at The Oval. Ajinkya Rahane (29 not out) repaired some of the early damage with Ravindra Jadeja (48) after India had been reduced to 71-4. But India were 151-5 at stumps, still 318 runs behind Australia’s first-innings 469 that featured hundreds from Travis Head and Steve Smith.
