Lords of Fallen brings the cosmic horror – but it’s not all good news

Bloodborne 2 may be wishful thinking, but fans of FromSoftware’s magnum opus do at least have something to look forward to in 2023. Developer Hexworks’ upcoming Lords of the Fallen reboot has an October 13 release date on PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC. And judging by the latest gameplay footage (which you can check out further down the page), Lords of the Fallen is shaping up to be a cosmic horror classic. Unfortunately, however, it’s not all good news.

According to Lords of the Fallen producer Saul Gascon (via WCCFTech), the upcoming action game won’t have a 4K option on PS5 or Xbox Series X/S.

Instead, Lords of the Fallen will display at 1080p in performance mode, or at an upscaled 1440p in quality mode.

On the plus side, the 1080p performance mode will run at 60 frames-per-second, while quality mode will run at 30 FPS.

“But even if you play at 60, Lords of the Fallen looks really good,” Gascon explains.

“On both consoles, we offer performance and quality modes. The performance mode goes at 60 frames per second and 1080p resolution upscaled, which is kind of the standard in the industry. The quality mode is 2K (1440P) upscaled, running at 30 FPS.”

“A vast world awaits in the all-new, dark fantasy action-RPG,” reads the official Lords of the Fallen description.

“Lords of the Fallen introduces an all-new, epic RPG adventure in a vast, interconnected world more than five times larger than the original game,” reads the official description.

“After an age of the cruellest tyranny, the demon God, Adyr, was finally defeated. But Gods… do not fall forever.

“Now, aeons later, Adyr’s resurrection draws nigh. As one of the fabled Dark Crusaders, journey through both the realms of the living and the dead in this expansive RPG experience, featuring colossal boss battles, fast challenging combat, thrilling character encounters, and deep, immersive storytelling.”
