lotr: The Lord of the Rings: Gollum gets a confirmed launch date – Times of India

The Lord of the Rings: Gollum is one title that fans of games based on the Lord of the Rings will surely be interested in. The game has been under development for more than two years for now and it’s got a confirmed launch date at last: September 1, 2022. That’s one day before the premiere of Amazon’s TV series ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power‘.
As for the platforms, the game would come to PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC on September 1, and on Nintendo Switch later this year. The Lord of the Rings: Gollum is developed by German video game developer Daedalic Entertainment in collaboration with Middle-earth Enterprises and is co-published by Daedalic Entertainment and Nacon.
The Lord of the Rings: Gollum is the biggest LOTR game since Monolith’s Shadow of War (2007), and contrary to the other title and its predecessor Shadow of Mordor, features an actual and very central character from the Lord of the Rings books and films. We are talking about none other than Gollum/Smeagol whom you’ll play as. Now, since sneaking about stealthily is what Gollum does best, the game features a lot of that. In fact, it could make for an engrossing adventure title even for people who were expecting Middle-earth’s famed heroes for the title.

The one gameplay element to look out for would be the split personality of Gollum where you get to decide which side of his personality to choose to deal with a particular challenge or problem. There is the Smeagol side and the Gollum side, the light and dark sides of the character.
The game is inspired by the character’s behind-the-scenes adventure in J.R.R. Tolkein’s first novel in the series The Fellowship of the Ring, and not the film trilogy. The developers say that they have focussed on Gollum’s journey that has not been told in detail yet.
