M3GAN 2 Announced for a 2025 Release Date

It’s official: M3GAN is dancing her way back onto the big screen.

Hollywood’s newest favorite murderous doll is returning for a sequel in 2025. The film, officially titled M3GAN 2.0, is officially in the works at Universal and is aiming for a January 17 release date.

While not much is known about the plot, M3GAN 2.0 will see the return of Allison Williams and Violet McGraw in substantial roles. Screenwriter Akela Cooper is returning to pen the sequel to 2023’s Atomic Monster and Blumhouse’s hit thriller. Gerald Johnstone directed the first film, but a director has not yet been announced for M3GAN 2.

M3GAN, short for Model 3 Generative Android, has become today’s version of Chucky, taking social media and the box office by storm. The film follows Williams as Gemma, a toy company roboticist who programs the artificial intelligence doll. Gemma tasks the childlike doll with protecting her niece Cady (McGraw), but things take a bloody turn when Cady’s safety is threatened. After all, M3GAN will protect Cady at all costs.

M3GAN’s creepy dancing and brutal murders have made her a modern star, resulting in what just might be a new tentpole horror icon. The film, which hit theaters in early January, has currently made $91 million globally, a box office smash for a film that only cost $12 million to make. It has also brought in relatively good reviews, with IGN giving it a 7/10.

Matt Donato’s review reads: “A genre star is born from motherboards and violence in a movie that begs to be a tad leaner yet delivers clip-worthy ‘horrortainment’ nonetheless.”

Horror icons Jason Blum and James Wan are returning to produce the second film alongside Williams.
