MacBook Pro to get OLED in 2026, MacBook Air to follow
Apple’s iPad Pro, MacBook Pro, and MacBook Air are expected to upgrade to OLED displays over a couple of years from now. This comes from Apple analyst Jeff Pu from the Haitong International Technology Research.
MacBook Pro to get OLED followed by MacBook Air
We already covered the latest buzz around the iPad Pro and its majestic upgrade to OLED displays and Apple M3 chipset that you can read here. With that being said, Pu says the Cupertino-based giant intends to update both 14” and 16” MacBook Pros with OLED panels. The timeline for the same is sometime in 2026. Turns out this timeframe corroborates with Ross Young (Display Supply Chain Consultants) which means it likely holds some credibility given both of the analyst’s reputations. Additionally, we will see MacBook Air getting the much-awaited OLED upgrade as per the rumors.
The consensus over the OLED timeline is uncanny. It’s the iPad Pro OLED to get the OLED display next year (i.e. in 2024) followed by the MacBook Pro series of laptops in 2026. We might see the dates slipping to 2027, although we can see that the Pro should come first. MacBook Air will follow the same steps as Pro in 2027. Its display is likely to be manufactured by Samsung Display, the largest display supplier for Apple at the moment. Pu does say we could see OLED iMac models arriving in the same year as well (i.e. 2027).
Upgrading to an OLED panel translates to better image quality and power efficiency. However, Apple will have to fix the current screen burn-in issues that would otherwise be a bad PR for the tech juggernaut. We are still hoping Apple will take the upgrade with caution mitigating the display-related issues.
