NEW DELHI: Devon Conway showcased his brilliance with a superb knock of 74 runs off 55 balls, propelling Texas Super Kings to a commanding 17-run victory over MI New York in a Major League Cricket encounter at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas on Tuesday.
This triumph has propelled the Faf Du Plessis-led team to the top of the points table.
The win marks Texas Super Kings’ second triumph in three matches in the inaugural edition of the MLC, establishing their strong start in the tournament.

Meanwhile, MI New York occupy the third position in the standings with one victory in three outings.
After Conway’s remarkable batting display, which guided Texas Super Kings to a total of 154-7 in their allotted 20 overs, it was their bowlers who dominated, restricting the MI New York batters.
Daniel Sams and Mohammad Mohsin from Texas Super Kings scalped two wickets each, while Rusty Theron, who made the initial breakthrough by dismissing Monank Patel for a duck, and Zia-ul-Haq and Dwayne Bravo, each claimed one wicket.
Conway, who hit 8 fours and 1 six in his innings, was adjudged Man of the Match.

“It was a slight challenge up front, felt like that the ball was not coming on in the powerplay. Myself and Faf decided to take our time and then set a platform for later on. We have a blueprint on how to go about things. The wind was going down-breeze and the plan was to hit with that. The crowd was great,” Conway said during the post match presentation.

After the win, Texas captain Du Plessis said:: “If you look at the power they have in the middle, the strongest hitters in the game – the composure we showed there (was commendable). He (Mohsin) has got a kit of tricks you want against those big hitters, especially the first 6 balls when they are exposing their front pad. I have the confidence in him now to throw him the ball in the 16th over against David. That’s me – I like fielding, the same with David Miller. We always go to the hostposts and make it happen,”.

“We (Bravo and I) played a lot of cricket together, we think alike, I always bounce ideas off him. He says he now identifies himself as a 29-year old. He is moving nicely for someone of his age. It’s a great game and thanks to the crowd. Hopefully we get the same following next game,” the skipper said.
Texas Super Kings will now lock horns with Seatle Orcas on Saturday, July 22, at the Church Street Park in Morrisville.
In another match, MI New York will face Washington Freedom on Monday, July 24, at the same venue.
