A Manchester City supporter was stretchered out of the Champions League final stadium on Saturday evening after appearing to ‘collapse’ in the stands. First noted by the I paper, the supporter was put on a stretcher and was seemingly being given oxygen by medical staff.
Stewards were said to be alerted to the situation before the supporter was carried out of the stadium and up the stairs.
Pictures taken of the man being stretchered away show several fans clapping to lend their support.
One picture did appear to show the City supporter putting his hand up to a fellow fan, suggesting he was conscious while being stretchered off.
Express Sport have contacted UEFA for an update on the supporter’s current wellbeing.
The incident occurred in the first half of the Champions League final with City and Inter Milan unable to be separated.
Pep Guardiola’s plans were certainly shattered when Kevin De Bruyne picked up an issue that forced him to come off.
“You feel for him don’t you,” Steve McManaman said on BT Sport.
“He’s had a wonderful season yet again and to have to come off injured…
“He must be devastated. He doesn’t want the sorrow off his friends, he just wants to get off the pitch.
“Hopefully there will be more times for Kevin De Bruyne.”
Phil Foden came on in De Bruyne’s place and, while Joleon Lescott feels losing the Belgium international to injury is a big blow for City, the former England defender feels his compatriot is an ideal replacement.
“100 per cent, someone that loves the club and loves football,” he said.
“As devastating as this is for Kevin De Bruyne and Manchester City, Phil Foden is more than an adequate replacement.”
