Man Utd boss Erik ten Hag accepts mistake as brutal ‘squad clearout plan’ set
Erik ten Hag won’t be putting the brakes on his Manchester United squad overhaul despite continued uncertainty over several recruitment roles at the club, according to reports. Old Trafford is set to host another mass squad clearout in 2024 after a productive summer saw 14 stars with senior appearances depart.
According to the Manchester Evening News, United are preparing for another outlay of players across both transfer windows next year, with exits likely to enter double figures.
The Red Devils were open to cashing in on a number of fringe players in the summer amid rising Financial Fair Play pressure.
And Ten Hag will continue to mould his squad over the next year, potentially with further backing from impending investor Sir Jim Ratcliffe.
The report claims Sofyan Amrabat is among the United players with an uncertain future at the end of his season-long loan.
Ten Hag had to convince the club to ignore internal doubts and sign Amrabat on deadline day, but he has struggled in the Premier League.
The chances of the Dutchman pushing to make his move permanent for £17million next summer have been described as receding.

Sergio Reguilon is unlikely to stay beyond his loan if Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia have returned to fitness as expected.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Victor Lindelof, Hannibal Mejbri and Anthony Martial’s contracts expire next summer, but there is an option to extend all four by a further year. Wan-Bissaka is reportedly in talks over fresh terms.
Tom Heaton and Jonny Evans’ deals have the same expiries without an option to extend, as do Brandon Williams and Alvaro Fernandez, currently out on loan.
Ten Hag’s reported desire for a new centre-back has left plenty of uncertainty in the position, with more than one exit possible.
Lindelof is on the shortest contract, but United were happy to sell Harry Maguire in the summer, and Raphael Varane has slipped down the pecking order.
Casemiro and Christian Eriksen turn 32 in February, while Scott McTominay was on the market in the summer and will likely be the subject of interest again next year.
Donny van de Beek is unsurprisingly available for transfer in January alongside Jadon Sancho. United are prepared to stomach a loss on the £73m they paid for the latter in 2021 after his row with Ten Hag.
Mason Greenwood will also return to the conversation next summer. His contract expires in 2025, leaving United with two transfer windows to receive a fee if he has no future in M16.
