Man Utd boss Ralf Rangnick details private Edinson Cavani chat as transfer plans emerge
Ralf Rangnick has explained how he pleaded with Edinson Cavani to stay at Manchester United until the end of the season. The 34-year-old has been heavily linked with a January switch to Barcelona, but Rangnick has confirmed he won’t let him leave midway through the season.
Speaking ahead of United’s first game of 2022 against Wolves on Monday, Rangnick detailed private chats he has had with Cavani to persuade him to stick around.
He said: “We spoke about Edi [Cavani], and he knows that I will definitely not let him go [in January] — we will definitely need Edi. I would rather have another Edi on top of that, but for me, it’s clear that Edi has to stay.
“We had quite a few conversations in the last couple of weeks – probably the player with whom I have spoken most. I told him from the very first day, for me, he is a highly important player.
“He is probably the only one who can play as a striker back to goal and face to goal.”
