Man Utd can blow Kane transfer saga wide open as ‘talks open’ over £90m boost
According to Sky Sports, West Ham have opened talks with United for Harry Maguire and Scott McTominay.
The report claims there is so far a gap in the clubs’ valuations of both players, but David Moyes has a sizeable transfer kitty after receiving £105million for Declan Rice.
And United are said to want £40m for McTominay and £50m for Maguire, viewing them as important members of Ten Hag’s squad.
If West Ham pay up for both players, as unlikely as it currently seems, it would provide the Red Devils with the required firepower to launch an assault for Kane.
The 29-year-old was United’s priority target going into the summer, but Spurs’ reluctance to sell to a Premier League rival switched focus to Atalanta’s Rasmus Hojlund.
Tottenham owner Joe Lewis’ reported request that Daniel Levy ties Kane down to a new contract or sell him this summer could change the picture, though.
And Sky Sports claim that Bayern Munich are growing increasingly confident that they can seal a deal for Kane before the window slams shut.
But West Ham’s talks for McTominay and Maguire may prompt United to lift their foot off the accelerator in their pursuit of Hojlund.
And if both land in east London in the coming weeks, the Old Trafford giants would surely have the funds required to gazump Bayern and lure Kane to Ten Hag’s project.
Alex Telles and Anthony Elanga have already boosted Ten Hag’s transfer budget through moves to Al-Nassr and Nottingham Forest, respectively.
Dean Henderson, Eric Bailly, and Fred are expected to join them as senior players out the exit door this summer.
Those departures could pave the way for Hojlund and a second midfielder, potentially Fiorentina’s Sofyan Amrabat.
But big-money sales like Maguire and McTominay would facilitate arguably the biggest deal of the summer transfer window and potentially the missing piece of the puzzle to make United challengers again.
