Man Utd can raise another £120m for Ten Hag to get four transfers over the line

Manchester United can make another £120million in sales this summer in order to finance further incomings to bolster Erik ten Hag’s squad. Andre Onana is expected to join Mason Mount as new additions, but financial constraints have remained at Old Trafford that have hampered them in the window.

United have been forced to pull out of potential deals for Declan Rice and Harry Kane as they were deemed too expensive, amid the ongoing takeover process and Financial Fair Play concerns. UEFA have already fined the club over FFP for a minor breach, while they are working on a restricted budget in the market.

However, Ten Hag and United’s recruitment team are hard at work looking to improve the current squad – having added Mount and are closing in on the signing of Onana to replace David De Gea who left on a free transfer. Problem areas still remain elsewhere though, especially with the Red Devils looking to add more firepower at the top of the pitch.

Rasmus Hojlund has been earmarked as a potential addition to ease the burden on Marcus Rashford up front, but Atalanta will not sell him for a bargain price. United are also looking to sign a backup goalkeeper in Zion Suzuki and another midfielder in the form of Sofyan Amrabat – but sales will be vital in order to land all of Ten Hag’s targets.

There are plenty of fringe players set for exits and could provide a welcome financial boost if buyers can be found. The likes of Harry Maguire, Scott McTominay, Fred, Dean Henderson, Anthony Elanga, Donny van de Beek, Alex Telles, Brandon Williams and Eric Bailly could all depart Old Trafford and transfermarkt have estimated their combined value at £120m.

That extra money could definitely come at a welcomed time, though some sales would need to be offset by replacements – such as Maguire despite confirming that he would no longer be club captain even if he remained at Old Trafford beyond this summer. Any decision reportedly lies with the player, who could fight it out at the club despite being their fifth-choice centre-back.

The likes of Axel Disasi and Jean-Clair Todibo have been eyed as potential replacements, but their signing in addition to Onana, Hojlund, Amrabat and Suzuki could see United spend close to £200m this window.

Sales will be necessary and movement could come soon on McTominay, as West Ham have already registered their interest in the Scot but now have a sizable budget to spend following their record £105m sale of Rice to Arsenal.

The midfielder could pave the way for further signings at Old Trafford, but it is unlikely that he is the only one to depart.
