Man Utd could sign 4 stars with huge new ‘budget available’ if FFP worries eased

Manchester United reportedly have a whopping £260million available for transfer spending this summer, although Financial Fair Play (FFP) restrictions mean that, as things stand, they may not be able to access all of it. The Red Devils could boost their chances by offloading players and spreading contracts over longer periods, however, which may leave supporters in for a wild summer. With that, Express Sport takes you through four players United could sign if they are able to splurge their entire summer budget…

Goncalo Ramos: £69m

Erik ten Hag’s need for a central striker is no secret, and neither is Harry Kane’s place at the top of his wish list. But with the Tottenham man off the market for Premier League sides, United may have to explore other options.

Benfica are already believed to have turned down a £43m bid for Ramos from an unnamed club this summer. With a reported £69m price tag, Ramos sits comfortably within United’s range, and the 22-year-old is an attractive proposition after hitting 19 league goals last season and a hat-trick at the World Cup.

Andre Onana: £52m

David de Gea’s Man Utd contract expires later this week, and he got fans talking by posting a yawning emoji on social media. Ten Hag has previously refused to confirm that the Spaniard will remain his first-choice stopper going forward.

If the boss decides that it is time to move on, Inter star Onana is thought to be a key candidate to step in. The Italian giants want a hefty £52m, but bringing in a goalkeeper so comfortable in possession could revitalise the Red Devils’ ability to build from the back.

Moises Caicedo: £80m

The most expensive of the four targets in question, but also the youngest and the only player with Premier League experience, Caicedo is expected to leave Brighton this summer. The Ecuadorian stood out in the Premier League last season, despite patrolling the middle of the park at just 21 years old.

Chelsea are in the mix for Caicedo, but United are also believed to have launched enquiries into what it would take to sign him. While £80m may be tough to take, splashing out would be that much easier if the Red Devils find a way to access the full extent of their summer budget.

Axel Disasi: £34m

Although Kim Min-jae looked the most likely candidate to bolster United’s defence, the Napoli star now seems to be heading for Bayern Munich when his release clause becomes active on July 1.

Nevertheless, the Red Devils are reportedly leading the chase for Monaco’s imposing centre-back Axel Disasi, who would be a cheaper option at just £34m. The 25-year-old is capped at senior level for France, and has made over 100 appearances in Ligue 1.

Bringing in these four players would revamp the entire spine of Ten Hag’s side and set the club back a combined £235m, leaving some wiggle room in the overall budget if opportunities present themselves later in the window.
