Man Utd could’ve had Solskjaer super team as six former targets flying
Moises Caicedo
The sinking feeling that United must have had after deciding against signing Caicedo two years ago will forever haunt their transfer chiefs. In January 2021, it was believed the club were close to wrapping up a deal for Caicedo but it was deemed the £4.5m fee was too high.
Brighton clearly felt differently and Caicedo has been proving them wrong ever since. The 21-year-old was subject of a £75m bid from Arsenal in January which was turned down by the Seagulls and after a stellar performance against United at the Amex Stadium on Thursday, his stock has gone through the roof.
Erling Haaland
Solskjaer handed United’s next striking sensation to them on a plate when his private chat with the then-Red Bull Salzburg star appeared to have sealed his £17m signing in January 2020. United, however, withdrew from the running due to a disagreement over a release clause being inserted into his contract and pulled the plug.
Borussia Dortmund stepped in and the rest is history. Haaland bagged an incredible 85 goals in 89 games in Germany and after earning a £51m switch to the blue side of Manchester last summer, he has just broken the record for most goals in a Premier League season with 35 in 31 appearances. United fans, read it and weep: he could have been yours.
Solskjaer’s potential Man Utd XI: De Gea; Trippier, Torres, Varane, Shaw; Rice, Camavinga, Caicedo; Sancho, Haaland, Rashford.
