Man Utd drop tell-tale Frenkie de Jong hint as transfer chiefs receive feedback
Manchester United are reportedly keen to sign highly-rated Rosenberg teenager Sverre Nypan. Red Devils scouts have supposedly tracked the 16-year-old for a year, with many figures in Scandinavian football believing Nypan is the ‘next Frenkie De Jong’.
The press-resistant midfielder is one of the hottest prospects in Norwegian football. He scored his first goal for Rosenberg last week, becoming the youngest player to do so in the club’s history aged just 16 years and 145 days.
Nypan is wanted by several top European clubs. However, United are reportedly trying to get ahead of the competition.
The Premier League side are claimed to have been scouting Nypan for over a year, long before he made his senior debut for Rosenberg. Tommy Moller Nielsen, United’s chief Scandinavian talent-spotter, was in attendance for the club’s Odds BK in late April but Nypan failed to make the matchday squad.
According to the Sun, United have extensively watched Nypan play for Rosenberg and the Norwegian youth teams over the last year with transfer chiefs being told to make a move for him. However, the ball-playing starlet is wanted by big clubs in Spain, Germany and Italy, leaving United with serious competition.
Nypan has been compared to Barcelona ace De Jong, who was extensively linked with United last summer. Eyeing Nypan could suggest that the Red Devils plan to sign a certain profile of midfielder, with De Jong potentially on their shortlist again for the upcoming transfer window. However, it could also indicate that they may have given up on signing the real De Jong by looking to bring in a younger version of him.
United spent most of last summer trying to sign the Dutchman but ultimately failed in their pursuit. La Liga champions Barca need to raise funds again this year despite their domestic triumph, potentially handing Erik ten Hag one of his most-wanted players.
Meanwhile, Nypan has been praised in Norway for his temperament. The diminutive youngster has impressed against much more physically-capable players, standing out in the Eliteserian – the top-flight of the country’s footballing pyramid.
