Man Utd get green light for Felix transfer with four players involved

Gabriel Agbonlahor believes Manchester United should sign Joao Felix because of four players, according to reports. The Portugal international had impressed during his time at Chelsea, having moved to west London from Atletico Madrid back in the January transfer window. However, joining the Blues permanently seems unlikely given they’re expected to miss out on Champions League football next term.

Manchester United have been linked with Felix amid uncertainty over his Chelsea future, with the Blues relying on Champions League glory to acquire the forward on a permanent basis.

And Agbonlahor, speaking to Football Insider, believes the attacker would be perfect at Old Trafford – especially due to the inconsistency of the likes of Anthony Martial, Jadon Sancho, Wout Weghorst and Antony.

“I really like what he’s done so far,” said the former Aston Villa star.

“I’ve seen a different side to him at Chelsea. At Atletico, he was playing too deep and wasn’t suited to how they play.

“At Chelsea, you see him getting on the ball, twisting past players – and he’s got a bit of pace as well. I really like him, but he’s got to be more clinical.

“I don’t see any reason why Man United can’t get him. They need options if they’re in the Champions League next season.

“Martial isn’t good enough, nor is Weghorst – scrap them. Antony and Sancho haven’t been great, so you’re talking about Rashford as their only threat.

“They need help, or it could be an embarrassing time in the Champions League for them.

“Felix, for me, would be a good signing for them.”

United are on the lookout for a new forward this summer, with Erik ten Hag looking to challenge for the Premier League title next season.

And Felix would certainly be a blockbuster arrival, with the Chelsea loanee regarded as one of the most-talented players of his generation.

The 23-year-old isn’t the only player being linked with a move to United as the summer transfer window creeps closer, however.

Harry Kane is widely reported to be United’s top target, with the Tottenham striker’s contract in north London due to expire next year.

That means Spurs face selling him now or running the risk of losing their talisman for nothing in just over 12 months’ time.

United also have interest in Napoli’s Victor Osimhen, who has bagged 25 goals from 29 games across all competitions this season.

In midfield, Frenkie de Jong, Jude Bellingham, Declan Rice, Mason Mount and James Maddison have all been linked.

And it’s possible the club will move for right-back Jeremie Frimpong, too, with Diogo Dalot and Aaron Wan-Bissaka blowing hot and cold.

Should United move for Felix, he’d become the fifth Portuguese player to join the club in the past two decades.

Cristiano Ronaldo was the first, with the 38-year-old joining as a teenager in 2003 before returning in 2021.

Nani touched down from Sporting Lisbon in 2007 and would proceed to win four Premier League titles, as well as the Champions League, during his time in England.

United landed Dalot in 2018, back when Jose Mourinho was manager.

And Bruno Fernandes made the move in January 2020, with the midfielder arguably the best recruit of the Ole Gunnar Solskjaer era.

Speaking last month, meanwhile, Felix opened up on his future after being asked if staying at Chelsea is dependent on the Blues qualifying for the competition.

“Yeah, playing in the Champions League is always different. It’s a competition that everyone wants to play,” he said.

“But now I’m focused on this Champions League, on the game.

“We have a lot of games yet to try to reach the Champions League in the league. It’s not over.

“But, yeah, playing in the Champions League is an important decision, but the future no one knows, so let’s see what happens and then we’ll see.”
