Man Utd have six players to sell to fund Rasmus Hojlund transfer

Manchester United face a race to trim their squad in order to afford an £85million transfer for striker target Rasmus Hojlund. Erik ten Hag is supposedly desperate to sign a new centre-forward before the start of the Premier League season but will need to sell players quickly to raise funds for Hojlund.

Having spent over a combined £100m on Mason Mount and the impending arrival of Andre Onana, United will recoup fees before they can pursue another expensive purchase. Express Sport looks at who could be sold.

Harry Maguire

Club captain Maguire seems destined to depart Old Trafford this summer. Linked with Tottenham, Newcastle and Aston Villa to varying degrees, the England star is outside of Ten Hag’s thinking.

The Dutchman has reportedly decided to strip Maguire of the captaincy, such is his plan to scarcely utilise the 30-year-old. With a desire to feature for England at Euro 2024, Maguire will therefore surely leave. If United can get £30m for the former Leicester ace, they’ll have got a good deal.

Anthony Martial

If United can agree to bring in Hojlund, Martial’s Red Devils future looks even bleaker. Once heralded as the future of the club, the Frenchman has not quite lived up to expectations borne out of his performances as a teenager.

Martial, who will turn 28 in December, attempted to revive his United career last season after a failed loan spell with Sevilla the campaign prior. The Premier League outfit surely realise that now is the time to part ways.

Jadon Sancho

England ace Sancho is United’s most valuable discardable asset this summer. The winger has never truly settled in at the club and a fresh start elsewhere would help to kickstart a career that appears to be at a crossroads.

There is so much talent waiting to be unlocked in Sancho, but is running out of time to prove that Old Trafford is the place for that to happen. Although United bought the 23-year-old for £70m, a £50m departure would be good business.

Alex Telles

United fans may be forgiven for forgetting that left-back Telles is still on their club’s books. The Brazilian spent last season on loan at Sevilla and has no future at Old Trafford. United must cut their losses.

Eric Bailly

Like Telles, United are reportedly actively seeking a buyer for centre-back Bailly. The Ivorian has not played a competitive game for the club since December 2021.
