Man Utd icon Paul Scholes fires Ole Gunnar Solskjaer Liverpool warning despite victory

Manchester United yet again came from behind at home in the Champions League to record victory, this time against Atalanta in an enthralling 3-2 win under the lights in west Manchester. But despite the plaudits that will come Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s way, the Red Devils first-half performance wasn’t enough to get excited over for their second-half virtuoso, says Paul Scholes.

United trailed 2-0 at the break thanks to goals from Mario Pasalic and Merih Demiral, but fought back with strikers from Marcus Rashford, Harry Maguire and that man again Cristiano Ronaldo.

Having scored the late winner against Villarreal last time out, Ronaldo will be delighted with the manner of the victory which has put United top of their group at the halfway stage.

But one man who wasn’t delighted was Paul Scholes – who stated that despite the superb second half, that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer cannot afford to use the tactics he did if he faces a top, top side such as Liverpool who remain unbeaten this season.

“I said it could have gone either way but you know what, I get all the United excitement with the way they’re playing. But that first half, I just didn’t enjoy it,” Scholes said on BT Sport.

“I think that first half put me off the second half in all honesty.

“I think if United were playing a better team it would have been out of sight.
