Man Utd latest as Glazers block two signings and Sheikh Jassim clarity given

Manchester United news is coming thick and fast, despite the season being over. The Glazers, Sheikh Jassim and Mason Mount all feature in our round-up. Express Sport now brings you all the latest coming out of the club.

Glazers block two signings

United have been linked with blockbuster deals for the likes of Kylian Mbappe and Neymar in recent weeks.

But Fabrizio Romano, speaking to GiveMeSport, has claimed the Glazers aren’t looking to sign either player at present.

“What we can say is that, with the Glazers, this is absolutely not a topic,” he said.

“For sure, they are not working on that or Neymar because we know the Glazers are going in a different direction.”

The Glazers are widely expected to leave United as talk of a takeover continues to rumble on.

Sheikh Jassim clarity

With United pursuing Mount, some have wondered who will be footing the bill for the Chelsea star.

Yet Express Sport understands it isn’t Sheikh Jassim.

Instead, it appears the Glazers are dipping into United’s vast wealth to get a deal over the line.

Chelsea have demanded three bids for Mount so far, with the Blues looking for £65million to sanction a departure.

United don’t want to go that high and believe their rivals are being unreasonable, however.

Six Mount alternatives

According to GiveMeSport, United have interest in six Mount alternatives.

Bayern Munich pair Ryan Gravenberch and Leon Goretzka are under consideration, with both players facing uncertain futures at the club.

United remain admirers of Declan Rice, even though Manchester City and Arsenal are likelier suitors.

There’s ‘real interest’ in Juventus star Adrien Rabiot.

And United also like Romeo Lavia and Amadou Onana, of Southampton and Everton respectively.

Neville makes Ferguson claim

Gary Neville has claimed he didn’t want to speak out against the Glazers while playing for United because he feared a backlash from Sir Alex Ferguson.

“They came in 2004 and they never put money into the club,” he told the Manchester Evening News.

“I was focused on playing football and Sir Alex Ferguson, to be fair, would have probably got rid of any footballer if they started talking about the owners.

“We didn’t do that, we were employees and we got on with it.

“They came to the training ground once and a few times after winning the league title they might pop in the dressing room.

“I never had a long conversation with any of them.”

Hutton thinks Varane could leave

Former Premier League star Alan Hutton thinks Raphael Varane could leave United this summer.

Speaking to Football Insider, he said: “I think Man United need a little bit of work at the back.

“Lindelof and Maguire are maybe going to be moved on. Varane is getting a little bit older now so maybe Ten Hag is having to move out a couple to bring in his top targets.

“I think it is an area that they need to strengthen moving forward if they really want to challenge for that top four and get back to what they once were.

“If they can get decent money for him I think it is someone they will probably move on.”
