Man Utd make key decision about next manager in blow to Antonio Conte and Zinedine Zidane

Manchester United chiefs have decided their next manager will be British, according to reports. Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers has emerged as the top target for the Red Devils. Current manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is under pressure following a poor start to the season.

Solskjaer saw his United side lose 5-0 at home to bitter rivals Liverpool last Sunday to put them eight points adrift of leaders Chelsea.

The Norwegian will remain in charge for Saturday’s match away at Tottenham and the Champions League group stage clash at Atalanta on Tuesday.

The Daily Star says those two matches are pivotal to Solskjaer’s future at the club.

United have resisted pressure to sack the 48-year-old this week.

“The directors, staff and players all have the same vision.”

Meanwhile, Solskjaer is determined to turn things around, starting in north London this weekend.

“As I said, we need a reaction,” Solskjaer said.

“It’s my job as well to put the players in the right frame of mind.

“I’m responsible for the reaction, for the result, for the performance.

“We’ve worked on the pitch on everything that needs to be sorted for a footballer and that’s not just one thing, that’s not just frame of mind, that’s approach going into the game, strategy going into the game, game-plan, tactics, technically.

“We’ve had a good week and I feel that the boys are ready to give their best, as they always do. Of course, nothing went to plan [last week] and that was nowhere near our best.”
