Man Utd may have big plans for Mason Greenwood as Ten Hag ‘decides next target’

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag could have big plans for Mason Greenwood if his reported next transfer target is anything to go by. Ten Hag looks set to stall on a striker signing again after United seal a deal for Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana, as Greenwood waits in the wings.

The Red Devils are in advanced talks over Onana, who is being lined up as David de Gea’s replacement following the Spanish No 1’s release.

According to Calciomercato, a compromise on United and Inter’s respective £47million and £51m valuations is close after a breakthrough at the weekend.

The transfer fee is said to be the final hurdle, with Ten Hag pushing and Onana agreeing to terms on a five-year contract at Old Trafford.

A striker was also considered high on Ten Hag’s priorities going into the summer, but that may have changed.

The report adds that United and Inter want to wrap up an agreement by the weekend before the M16 giants move on to their next target, Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat.

Despite splashing £60m to sign Mason Mount from Chelsea, Ten Hag reportedly wants to replicate the double upgrade from his first transfer window as United manager.

The Dutchman signed Christian Eriksen and Casemiro after taking charge at Old Trafford, and he wants another new face in his engine room before the new season.

But amid links to Atalanta striker Rasmus Hojlund, United were widely expected to launch a pursuit after Onana’s arrival.

The extended delay may offer a glimpse into Ten Hag’s mindset involving Greenwood as United’s investigation into his future comes to a close.

In February, the Crown Prosecution Service dropped all charges of attempted rape, engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour and assault against the 21-year-old.

And the Manchester Evening News claim Greenwood will leave the club on loan this summer after a five-month deliberation over his Red Devils career.

But the report states that Ten Hag is reluctant to sell the forward, who emerged as one of United’s most exciting academy graduates under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

And his plan to target Amrabat after Onana suggests that Ten Hag doesn’t view a new striker as essential as he did a few months ago following the investigation into Greenwood.
