Man Utd poised for Kylian Mbappe transfer with Sheikh Jassim and PSG ‘plan’ set
Manchester United will be in pole position to seal a sensational swoop for Kylian Mbappe if Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani completes a takeover this summer, according to reports. Sheikh Jassim could use his Qatari ties to make the wantaway PSG forward a statement signing if he buys United from the Glazers.
According to Madrid-based outlet El Pais, PSG’s Qatari owners plan to sell Mbappe to United if Sheikh Jassim becomes the club’s owner in the coming months.
Discussions over the blockbuster deal have been ongoing since February, with Mbappe destined to leave the Parc des Princes.
The 24-year-old has announced his intention to opt against extending his PSG contract beyond 2024, meaning PSG would lose him for free if they don’t cash in this summer.
And he is said to find the prospect of a move to United, where he would become the face of a new era under Sheikh Jassim’s ownership, interesting.
A deal to lure Mbappe to Old Trafford would send shockwaves across the Premier League and the football world but could become a reality if the Qatari businessman comes into power.
The report states that figures close to PSG president Nasser al-Khelaifi have indicated that those involved in Sheikh Jassim’s takeover bid have made the proposal to Mbappe.
They have used United’s status as the richest team in the Premier League and the league’s reputation as the world’s strongest as selling points to the France captain.
Earlier this month, Al-Khelaifi shot down suggestions that he was involved in Sheikh Jassim’s United takeover bid amid reports of contact with the Glazers.
He said: “Paris St-Germain is my club, in my heart, and I have nothing to do with Manchester United.
“It makes me laugh. I am Qatari, right? If people ask me my opinion, I will answer them for sure — and that’s what they do.
“I am talking about anyone, not just Manchester United. I will give them the experience I have.”
But he would have had a say in the alleged talks about a potential deal with United for Mbappe over the last four months.
That said, Real Madrid remain heavy favourites to finally secure Mbappe’s signature after their failed attempt last summer.
