Man Utd star Edinson Cavani appears to wave goodbye to fans after Burnley win

Manchester United striker Edinson Cavani appeared to wave goodbye to fans inside Old Trafford following the club’s 3-1 win over Burnley on Thursday. The Red Devils cruised to victory to boost their chances of finishing in the Premier League top four. Yet they may now be facing a departure of one of their best players.

Thursday night was a positive evening for United, coming just days after they’d struggled in a 1-1 draw away at Newcastle.

Scott McTominay was the best player on the pitch and opened the scoring early on, sweeping the ball into the net following good work from Cristiano Ronaldo.

Ben Mee’s own goal then doubled United’s lead, with Ronaldo adding a third just before the interval.

Burnley did pull one back through Aaron Lennon but Ralf Rangnick’s team were able to hold on and win their third Premier League game since the German’s appointment.

After the game, Cavani went over to pay tribute to supporters.

And Cavani would be a good replacement for his fellow South American, especially given his lack of minutes at United this season.

He isn’t the only player who could leave the club in the January transfer window, either, with several other departures possible.

United still expect Jesse Lingard to be with them by the time February comes around.

But with the midfielder’s contract at the club winding down, they’re open to cashing in next month should a suitable offer arrive.

That’s a similar case with Paul Pogba, too.

The France international is due to become a free agent at the end of the season and Real Madrid, Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona are all keen.

United are still hopeful Pogba will stay but, currently, all signs point to a parting of the ways.

Donny van de Beek is another who may depart given his struggles ever since his move from Ajax back in the summer of 2020.

And it’s possible United will lose Anthony Martial, with Sevilla already seeing one bid for the striker turned down.

Meanwhile, United legend Gary Neville recently opened up on Cavani.

And he hailed the forward, expressing a belief he’s capable of playing in the same team as Cristiano Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes.

“I always feel better when he’s in the team. He represents the shirt. He belongs,” he said.

“He’s fantastic. I don’t think he wilts in presence of Cristiano Ronaldo or Bruno Fernandes.

“He stands up to them, he helps the younger players.”

Cavani could feature when United lock horns with Wolves on Monday.
