Man Utd supporters call for Erik Ten Hag to show ruthless side with Jadon Sancho
Manchester United have been urged to cut their losses and sell Jadon Sancho this summer by Express Sport readers. The winger has struggled since returning to England in a deal worth £73million and speculative reports have linked him with an exit from Old Trafford, and it appears that the general consensus is that he needs to be moved on by Erik ten Hag to help him get his career back on track.
Ten Hag is desperate to invest this summer, despite uncertainty surrounding budgets due to the Glazers showing no signs of urgency in takeover negotiations. Therefore, United are looking at players that can be sold in order to raise funds.
Club captain Harry Maguire, winger Anthony Elanga and injury-prone striker Anthony Martial are among a host of stars now in the shop window as a result, and some believe that the Red Devils should be entertaining offers for Sancho whilst he holds some value.
Express Sport asked our readers whether United should sell Sancho this summer, to which 10,525 responded and 6,507 voted ‘yes’. Despite scoring six and assisting three in 26 league appearances last season, many do not believe that the England international will return to the form that made him one of the most exciting young talents in Europe at Borussia Dortmund.
A return to Dortmund has been speculatively cited as a potential destination for Sancho if he is sold, though they certainly won’t be the only club interested if United decide to sell the 23-year-old.
Given that Ten Hag prepared a programme that saw Sancho isolated from the squad to regather his thoughts before being reintegrated into the squad, it appears unlikely that the winger is going anywhere imminently – much to the relief of the 4,018 Express Sport entrants who said that he should remain at the Theatre of Dreams.
With a marquee No 9 set to arrive – pushing Marcus Rashford out wide – Sancho will need to improve if he is to play regularly next season. Though Dimitar Berbatov has provided the former Dortmund star with a firm vote on confidence.
He told Betfred: “I do believe it would be premature to sell Jadon. I think he needs at least one more season at the club to prove what he can do and show everybody that he still possesses all the qualities we saw from him at Borussia Dortmund.
“If he’s not good again next season, then it may be time to consider moving him on. He needs to prepare well for next season and he needs to have the right environment around him, on and off the pitch. If his head is in the right place, then I believe he will have a good season.”
