Man Utd transfer boost as West Ham ‘meet Maguire asking price’ with third offer

According to The Guardian, West Ham have made a £30million bid to sign Maguire and are awaiting United’s response.

The Hammers have already seen two approaches rebuffed this summer, first inquiring about a season-long loan before offering £20m.

Last week, The Independent claimed that United were holding out for at least £30m, which West Ham are now said to have tabled.

Despite making just eight Premier League starts last term, Maguire intends to stay at Old Trafford to fight for his place in Ten Hag’s project.

But the Dutchman stripped him of the captaincy in July, handing the armband to Bruno Fernandes.

And he fielded the No 5 in United’s second-string side against Athletic Club in Dublin on Sunday rather than among his key players when RC Lens visited Manchester a day earlier.

Maguire made negative headlines in the 1-1 draw at the Aviva Stadium, culpable for the Bilbao outfit’s first-half opener.

The 30-year-old produced a second of laziness on the ball, surrendering possession in a dangerous area before Oihan Sancet slipped through Nico Williams, who finished past Tom Heaton.

It only intensified an increasingly toxic relationship between Maguire and a section of the United fanbase. Some in attendance aimed boos in his direction after the opener.

Reports claim West Ham manager David Moyes is the driving force behind the club’s interest in Maguire as he looks to build on last season’s Europa Conference League success.

And Ten Hag would welcome £30m being added to his transfer kitty as he eyes Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat. OGC Nice centre-back Jean-Clair Todibo is also being lined up as Maguire’s potential replacement.

West Ham’s summer transfer business has been nothing short of farcical so far. They are the only Premier League side yet to recruit.

But things are looking up in east London ahead of the start of the 2023/24 campaign this weekend.

Fabrizio Romano reports West Ham have agreed a £35m deal for Ajax midfielder Edson Alvarez, who is expected to complete a move in the coming days.

And the club’s accelerated pursuit of Maguire is the start of a double swoop at Old Trafford, with Scott McTominay also in Moyes’ sights.

West Ham are confident United would part ways with Maguire and McTominay for a combined fee worth around £60m.
