Manchester United’s new interim boss Ralf Rangnick will have plenty of important problems to solve at Old Trafford between now and the end of the season. The German will be tasked with guiding the Red Devils back into the Premier League’s top four after a hugely disappointing campaign to date under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Rangnick is already believed to be drawing up a list of January transfer targets in order to steady the ship, with Chelsea striker Timo Werner among the names on United’s radar, according to Bild.
The former RB Leipzig boss is also said to be keen on raiding his old club for the services of Christopher Nkunku, while Atletico Madrid full-back Kieran Trippier is another reported target for the Red Devils.
Express Sport takes a look at the United side that could terrorise Premier League defences next season if Rangnick manages to land all three players at the turn of the year.
Goalkeeper – De Gea
David de Gea has been one of United’s few shining lights as of late, keeping his side out of trouble on a number of important occasions.
He looks set to retain his place in the side ahead of Dean Henderson, who has been linked with a move away from United as part of Rangnick’s rebuilding process.

The 24-year-old has struggled to get a look in this season and is thought to be frustrated over his lack of action since the beginning of the campaign.
Defence – Trippier, Maguire, Varane, Shaw
Rangnick is known for being a shrewd operator in the transfer market and could decide to use his skills to land Trippier, who was linked with United over the summer.
The Red Devils are believed to have renewed their interest in a move for the England man amid growing concerns over Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s dire recent form.
Trippier’s crossing ability would certainly provide United with a greater attacking threat and his ability to bomb up the pitch could suit Rangnick’s high-pressing style.

Midfield – McTominay, Nkunku, Fernandes
United could set themselves up in a variety of ways under Rangnick, who has been known to deploy a 4-2-3-1 formation or even a unique 4-2-2-2 in previous years.
However, the arrival of Nkunku would allow the Red Devils to attack with purpose in a 4-3-3 that includes Scott McTominay as the sole holding midfielder.
The Leipzig man, who has already chipped in with 13 goals and 12 assists this season, could be tasked with pulling the strings alongside Bruno Fernandes behind United’s front three.
Nkunku’s capture would go a long way to providing United with some additional firepower with a side of much-needed creativity to boost their hopes of a top-four finish.

Attack – Werner, Sancho, Ronaldo
Werner has consistently struggled in front of goal during his time at Chelsea but established himself as a prolific operator under Rangnick’s guidance with Leipzig.
He could find a new lease of life upon reuniting with his former boss at Old Trafford, with a change of scenery potentially able to help him recapture his form of old.
United’s attacking trio would be completed by Jadon Sancho, who looks to have finally found his feet after scoring against Chelsea on the weekend, and none other than Cristiano Ronaldo.
The latter has already racked up 10 goals in all competitions this season and will be trusted to provide a consistent supply of match-winning moments between now and the end of the campaign.
Possible Man Utd XI (4-3-3) – De Gea; Trippier, Maguire, Varane, Shaw; McTominay, Nkunku, Fernandes; Werner, Sancho, Ronaldo.
