Manchester City star Joao Cancelo set to join Bayern Munich on loan: Reports | Football News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: Manchester City defender Joao Cancelo is set to join Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich on loan, before the January transfer window shuts, as per media reports.
The Portuguese footballer, who played magnificent roles in Manchester City’s back-to-back Premier League title triumphs (2020–21 and 2021–22), was named in the PFA (Professional Footballers’ Association) Team of the Year for the past two seasons.
Cancelo can play as a right back or left back. He is an attacking defender and has played a big role for City, but according to reports is not happy with his role at the club anymore after reportedly falling out of favor with manager Pep Guardiola since the Qatar World Cup.
Since returning from the World Cup, Cancelo, who plays for the Portugal national team, has featured less and less for Manchester City.
Cancelo, who has appeared in 98 games for City overall since 2019 and has scored 5 goals, started in 36 EPL games last year.
According to reports, Bayern will have the option of buying Cancelo outright for 70 million Euros.
In 2019, Cancelo joined City from Juventus on a six-year deal, making him the most expensive right-back ever.
Neither City nor Bayern have commented officially on any deal for Cancelo yet.
According to reports, Cancelo has apparently blocked Manchester City fan accounts, which has made the rumour mills work on overdrive about him leaving City.
