Manchester United ‘confident’ over Erling Haaland transfer because of three players

Manchester United are growing increasingly confident when it comes to signing Erling Haaland next summer, reports say. The Borussia Dortmund star has been in outrageous form over the past 18 months. And a blockbuster move to Old Trafford could await in a year’s time.

United had originally intended to sign Haaland this summer.

They had the Dortmund striker at the top of their transfer shortlist as recently as March, believing he’d be a huge Old Trafford hit.

However, Edinson Cavani’s decision to stay at United ultimately prompted the Red Devils into pausing their interest and swooping for Jadon Sancho instead.

Now, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is expected to go after his compatriot when Cavani’s contract expires at the end of the campaign.

And Forbes say United are growing increasingly confident about signing Haaland, with three players behind their stance.

Then, there’s Harry Kane.

Should Manchester City succeed in landing the Tottenham striker, as expected, then their need for Haaland would be lessened.

It’s hard to see them landing both players and Pep Guardiola tinkering with the system that’s served him so well throughout his reign at the Etihad Stadium.

So, with City expected to sign Kane, United are content with that because it boosts their chances of acquiring Haaland.

And Kylian Mbappe is another player behind their confidence.

United suspect Real Madrid want the France international more than Haaland, despite being spurned by the 22-year-old in 2017.

And that could work in Solskjaer’s favour when it comes to bringing the Dortmund star to the Premier League.

Forbes state the ‘pieces appear to be falling into play’ for United’s pursuit of the striker.

And whether they’re able to bring him to Old Trafford as Cavani’s stellar replacement in a year’s time remains to be seen.

Speaking earlier this year, Solskjaer revealed he was still in touch with Haaland – having previously managed him at Molde.

“When you have had kids and players through as a coach, you follow them and I keep in touch with Erling,” he said.

“It’s great to see him become the player he has become and [how] he works to improve all the time.

“He’s a Dortmund player – we just wish him well there and let’s see what life will bring later on.

“You know I can’t speak about Erling because he’s at Borussia Dortmund, and it’s disrespectful to talk too much about it, apart from that I know him and I speak to him.

“Who wasn’t interested in him a year ago? Everybody would say you would take the best players in the world and Erling is a top player.”
