Manchester United have four improving players but three concerns after Chelsea draw

David De Gea, too, was another positive.

Many had expected the Spain international to be demoted this term, especially after being dislodged by Dean Henderson for some matches at the end of last season.

But De Gea is now clearly back to his best.

He topped United’s official player ratings voted by fans after making great saves to deny Callum Hudson-Odoi and Antonio Rudiger, tipping the latter’s thunderbolt shot onto the bar.

If De Gea can keep this form up, there’s definitely a chance he’ll be in the running for the Sir Matt Busby award once the season draws to a close in May.

A fourth positive for United was the display of Alex Telles, too.

However, this was another bright occasion for the 21-year-old. His goal was well taken, especially given how he panicked Jorginho with his searing speed.

Sancho now has two in two under Carrick and United will be hopeful this purple patch can last as they look to turn their season around.

Scott McTominay also deserves credit.

The Scotland international was dire during the final weeks of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s reign, failing to stamp his authority on matches.

But McTominay was significantly improved against Chelsea, building on his solid showing in the Champions League in midweek with an energetic display.

While he lacks the wow factor of Paul Pogba or the finesse of Donny van de Beek, McTominay’s willingness to dig in and put in a shift makes him a useful asset for the club to have.
