Marvel’s Kevin Feige Says Tom Cruise’s Iron Man Was Never an Option ‘Because of Availability’

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness released with huge fanfare in theatres last week, and fans finally got the chance to see all the cameos that Marvel teased in the movie’s teaser trailers and posters.

While many of them were excited to see the return of characters like Sir Patrick Stewart’s Charles Xavier, some of them set huge expectations to the point where they hoped to see Hollywood star Tom Cruise, who was rumored to be playing a variant of Tony Stark aka Iron Man.

In the months leading up to the release, many “leaks” suggested that the actor would show up in the Doctor Strange sequel to play the role he was once offered by Marvel a couple of decades before it was given to Robert Downey Jr. Most of these rumors suggested that Cruise would be playing the Superior variant, who would also be another member of the Illuminati.

Expect one of Tom Cruise’s most dangerous stunts yet.

For the past few months, neither Marvel nor the actor ever addressed the possible inclusion of Superior Iron Man in the movie. However, in a recent Rolling Stones interview, Multiverse of Madness writer Michael Waldron revealed that the casting was a fan-created rumor that had no basis at all.

But, Waldron also mentioned that he had intentions to possibly include Tom Cruise as Iron Man, and he even asked Marvel head Kevin Feige about it.

However, the studio never reached out to the actor about adding him to Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness because of availability issues stemming from his work involving Mission Impossible 7 and 8.

In the end, it’s interesting to note that Marvel did have plans to create space for Cruise in the movie, even though they never really materialized. However, it also sparks hope about the actor potentially donning the suit in a future MCU movie and fans would love to see him play a version of the billionaire genius.
