Marvel’s Thunderbolts Adds Breakout Star From The Bear in Secret Role

Ayo Edebiri, the breakout star of Hulu’s critically beloved sleeper hit The Bear, is joining Marvel’s Thunderbolts in an undisclosed role, according to Deadline Hollywood.

She joins a star-studded cast that also includes Sebastian Stan (Bucky Barnes), Florence Pugh (Yelena Belova), David Harbour (Red Guardian), Julia Louis-Dreyfus (Valentina Allegra de Fontaine), Olga Kurylenko (Taskmaster), Hannah John-Kamen (Ghost), and Wyatt Russell (U.S. Agent).

Jake Schreier is set to direct, with Thor: Ragnarok and Black Widow’s Eric Pearson writing the script. Thunderbolts is currently slated to release July 26, 2024 as the second-to-last film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Phase 5, which will begin with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania next month.

The Bear debuted on Hulu to widespread critical acclaim last summer, following the struggles inside a Chicago-based beef sandwich shop. Though much of the attention has been paid to Jeremy Allen White’s leading performance as a chef who leaves fine dining to run the restaurant after the tragic death of his brother, Edebiri has also garnered acclaim as Sydney Adamu, a talented and ambitious if less experienced young chef. She’s collected nominations from the Gotham Awards, the Critics’ Choice Awards, and the Independent Spirit Awards for the role, and is expected to be a contender for Emmys as well.
