Max Verstappen may surpass both Hamilton and Vettel at Singapore GP

Red Bull star Verstappen has been the dominant force in Formula One this season, overcoming a poor start which was plagued by mechanical problems to lead the driver’s standings by 116 points from Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc. He has won 11 of the 16 races so far, including five of the last five to give his opponents very little chance of catching him.

He can now win the title in the next race in Singapore, five races before the season officially comes to an end in Abu Dhabi in November. For this to happen, the 24-year-old must beat Leclerc by 22 points, Red Bull colleague Sergio Perez by 13 and Brit George Russell by six. In practice, that means Verstappen must win the race with Leclerc ninth or lower, while Perez would have to be fourth or lower without the fastest lap.

Verstappen will soon be switching his focus solely to next season as he looks to build on his current dominance within the sport. The race in Singapore gives him an opening to wrap the title up in quick time however given the large gap to Leclerc it will require, sealing the title in the following race in Japan may end up being the most likely outcome.
