Max Verstappen puts Sky Sports reporter in awkward spot with question about exes

Max Verstappen left a Sky Sports presenter in an awkward position after bringing up talk of exes during the Hungarian Grand Prix press conference. Verstappen was left giggling as he flipped a question on its head to ask David Croft about his love life.

Croft asked Daniel Ricciardo whether he would regret returning to his ex after the Australian’s move back to the Red Bull junior team. The 34-year-old last drove for the Faenza-based squad back in 2013 when it was under its Toro Rosso guise.

However, Verstappen quickly butted in before Ricciardo could respond as he turned things back to the TV commentator. The discussion was then centred around Croft’s personal life as he mentioned his fiancé Laura Bradley.

Croft asked Ricciardo: “It’s good to see you back although you’re going back to your ex. They say you sometimes shouldn’t go back to your ex because it’s fraught with potential problems. Is this fraught with potential problems?”

Moments later, Ricciardo dispelled Croft’s suggestion as he revealed there were no downsides to making his F1 comeback at his former team. Ricciardo explained: “It’s all good. It’s all positive. I was there last week. The facilities changed a lot in the last 10 years since I was there. It felt like a new team or a fresh environment.

“Also 10 years is a long time. The team changed, I’ve changed. There’s a nice kind of nostalgia going back but I feel like we both evolved and Im starting this next phase with a very fresh page. Also for me I needed to, let’s say stepping aside from the sport a little bit, I changed probably my perspective on things. 

“I’m just coming into tis with no ‘what it’s going to be like, it’s going to be a struggle here, it’s going to be frustrating’. I’m just happy to have this opportunity.”
