Meta removes over 21 million ‘bad content’ on Facebook, Instagram in India: Report – Times of India

Meta has released its monthly report listing out the number of bad content it purged on both Facebook and Instagram, actions taken against violating content, information on grievances received from users in India and orders received from Grievance Appellate Committee (GAC) for the month of July.
According to the report published on August 31, the company purged over 15.8 million pieces of content across 13 policies for Facebook and over 5.9 million pieces of content across 12 policies for Instagram in India in the period from July 1 to July 31.
Big digital and social media platforms that have more than 5 million users are required to publish monthly compliance reports in accordance with the IT Rules 2021. In the latest monthly report, Meta also highlighted the tools to address content reports.
These include pre-established channels to report content for specific violations, self-remediation flows where they can download their data, avenues to address account hacked issues etc.
Bad content reports on Facebook
In the monthly report, Meta said Facebook received 3,200 reports through the Indian grievance mechanism.
“Of the other 25,306 reports where specialised review was needed, we reviewed content as per our policies, and we took action on 5,392 reports in total. The remaining 19,914 reports were reviewed but may not have been actioned,” Meta added.
Bad content reports on Instagram
On Instagram, the company received 20,146 reports through the Indian grievance mechanism and provided tools for users to resolve their issues in 5,102 cases,” it said.
Of the other 15,044 reports where specialised review was needed, Meta reviewed content and took action on 4,635 reports in total. The remaining 10,409 reports were reviewed but may not have been actioned, the company added.
The company received eight orders from the Grievance Appellate Committee and complied with all of them.
