Michael B. Jordan Has an Exciting Update on the Return of Erik Killmonger in Black Panther 2

Popular Hollywood actor Michael B. Jordan recently addressed the potential return for his MCU villain Erik Killmonger in the Black Panther franchise.

Erik Killmonger was the son of King T’Chaka’s brother Prince N’Jobu, who was played by Sterling K. Brown. Following the death of his father at the hands of King T’Chaka, Killmonger grew up in Oakland instead of Wakanda like his cousin T’Challa.

After a tough upbringing in the projects, Killmonger eventually became a black ops U.S. Navy SEAL. The movie then followed the ensuing battle between T’Challa and Killmonger as they laid claim to the throne of Wakanda.

In the end, following a brutal battle in a Wakandan vibranium mine, T’Challa stabbed Killmonger in the chest. While T’Challa offered his cousin to heal his fatal wound with the help of Wakandan technology, Killmonger refused his offer as he wanted to live his last moments as a free man.

The movie concluded one of the best villain arcs in MCU history with the duo watching the sun go down in Wakanda during Killmonger’s last breaths.

Following the untimely demise of Chadwick Boseman in 2020, a lot of rumors and theories have swirled around the mantle of Black Panther. With the sequel in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever set to release later this year, the list of characters that might don the suit include Letitita Wright’s Shuri, and Winston Duke’s M’Baku.

Along with that, it has even been suggested that Michael B. Jordan’s Killmonger might receive a resurrection to give him a second shot as the King of Wakanda.

During a recent interview with MTV, Jordan was asked about his interest in playing the character again in live-action after he voiced Killmonger in episode 6 of the animated series What If…? to which he replied:

“Man, I mean I think it’s a character and a world that I love so much, you know who knows? But as we all know, Marvel has their plans and their things. Who knows how things are going to shake out.”

As of right now, it’s still unclear if the Black Panther sequel will reveal whether any character will take the mantle of the iconic hero. But it’s pretty much confirmed that Killmonger won’t be a part of it.

However, fans would love to see Michael B. Jordan return to the MCU with a fresh arc surrounding his redemption, so he could be a part of Wakanda’s future.
