Microsoft Believes Cloud Gaming Is Currently “Immature” as It Moves Towards Building Its Mobile Game Store, and More

It’s fair to say that Microsoft is the market leader of cloud gaming, thanks to Xbox Cloud Gaming. However, the company believes that the technology has a long way to go.

As the company continues to push forward its attempt to seek approval for the Activision deal from UK’s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA), Microsoft’s latest legal filing showcases its view towards its cloud gaming platform, which has been dubbed “immature.” (via The Washington Post)

Microsoft further stated that cloud gaming technology won’t hamper the demand for console gaming at least for the next few years, as it’s still in its infancy. Additionally, the tech giants also believe that cloud gaming is yet to be proven among the masses.

Here's how it'll work.
Cloud gaming is in its infancy according to Microsoft.

The legal filing also includes details about Microsoft’s attempts to create a dent in the mobile world with the help of next-generation games that will be created in partnership with Activision Blizzard.

This will be done through a new Xbox Mobile Store platform, which will compete against the likes of Google Play Store and App Store.

It will be interesting to see what Microsoft intends to do with Activision and its various IPs. However, with stiff resistance from its competitors like PlayStation, it’s unclear when the $68.7 billion acquisition will finally receive all the necessary approvals. While the CMA attempts to gain opinions from the public on the matter, gaming fans hold their breath to see how the situation will unfold in the near future.
