Microsoft introduces native Teams app for Apple Silicon Macs – Times of India

Microsoft’s video conferencing app – Teams – is going native on Apple Silicon after three months of beta testing. The new native Teams app should benefit from enhancements made for the native Apple silicon apps – it should be faster and more efficient. Microsoft says the new native Teams app will offer a better experience using high-resolution monitors.
Until now, Microsoft Teams has been running on the Rosetta 2 emulation. And a native app for Apple Silicon has been one of the highest-requested features. Microsoft says that the current non-native Teams app will be automatically upgraded to the native version. But, it will not be instant as Microsoft says that the update will take a few months to roll out to Team users on the M1 series or M2 Macs.
The native Teams app will be rolling out “in increments”
However, you can download the beta version of the native Teams app if you do not have enough patience for a stable rollout. You can download the beta app from Microsoft’s official website.
Microsoft says that the new version of the Teams app will be a “universal” binary, which means it will work fine on both Intel and Mac computers.
It took Microsoft a sweet time, two years, to bring the native version of the Teams app. Microsoft was one of the first companies to bring native apps to Apple Silicon. In December 2020, Microsoft announced the native Office suite apps, including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and OneNote for the Apple Silicon.
