Microsoft Lends Support to Epic Games in Anti-Trust Battle With Apple

One of the tech world’s biggest battle between giants Apple and Fortnite developers Epic Games, recently took an interesting turn with the involvement of Microsoft.

The Redmond-based tech conglomerate filed an amicus brief along with the backing of 35 US State Attorney Generals to support Epic Games in its anti-trust battle with the Cupertino-based Apple.

The developers of Fortnite have been in a long-standing battle with Apple and it has blamed the latter for following anti-trust practices to stifle competition.

Recently, the company filed an appeal against the ruling which heavily favored Apple, even though the judge sided with Epic for its stance on the tech corporation’s restrictions regarding in-app purchases.

Epic Games is in the midst of challenging the ruling, and the company has received the support of many US Attorney Generals. But now, it has also received the backing of Microsoft as well.

In the amicus brief filed by Microsoft, the company has stated that, “A broad ruling for Apple could leave little room for a limiting principle to prevent Apple from leveraging its control of iOS to foreclose competition in countless adjacent markets.”

Moreover, it also included a scathing remark about the ruling as well, when Microsoft mentioned that, “The district court’s reasoning failed to give sufficient weight to these immense competitive risks and, if broadly affirmed, could insulate Apple from meritorious antitrust scrutiny and embolden further harmful conduct.”

Even though last year’s ruling forced Apple to add external links for payment options on the App Store, Epic Games wasn’t satisfied with the decision at all.

The company has long complained about Apple’s monopolistic tactics, and it all stemmed from the removal of Fortnite from iOS devices.

Since then, fans have had to wait for their court battle to end so they could decipher the game’s possible return even though it’s technically available through GeForce Now. However, it remains to be seen if the game will return to the popular App Store anytime soon for players to enjoy without any hassle.
