Microsoft: Microsoft lays off employees from LinkedIn’s recruitment department – Times of India

Microsoft has reportedly announced more job cuts. In the latest round, the company has cut jobs in its professional networking platform LinkedIn. Reports suggest that the reduction in workforce is the part of Microsoft’s plan to lay off 10,000 employees, or about 5% of its workforce, over the course of this quarter.
As per a report by The Information, LinkedIn has laid off employees in the recruiting department and Microsoft confirmed the development saying certain employees have been handed notices. However, there is no information on how many employees have been let go. The news comes a few months after LinkedIn announced a freeze on hiring.

Microsoft job cuts in Xbox and Azure divisions
Microsoft has already cut the employee headcount in several divisions, including GitHub, Azure, metaverse and gaming.
Most recent job cuts happened in multiple teams, including Surface devices, HoloLens mixed reality hardware and Xbox. About 617 workers were reported to have been affected in the latest round of job cuts across teams.
Microsoft reduced the headcount in Xbox marketing and the Xbox Gaming Ecosystem Group. Xbox Chief Phil Spencer sent an email to employees saying, “I encourage everyone to take the time and space necessary to process these changes and support your colleagues.” The company had also reduced the headcount in the video-game studio that makes Microsoft’s Halo games.

Microsoft also fired its entire Industrial Metaverse team. The team was created four months ago to accelerate the adoption of Microsoft’s mixed reality headset among enterprise customers. Microsoft-owned GitHub also announced a 10% reduction in its workforce.
Layoff in technology industry
Last few months have witnessed mass layoffs in the technology industry. Amazon announced that it will reduce its workforce by 18,000 employees, while Google is cutting some 12,000 jobs. Meta has also fired 11,000 employees and Zoom CEO Eric Yuan recently announced that the company will be laying off 1,300 employees, which translates to about 15% of its staff.
