microsoft: Microsoft may have plans for a low-cost student-centric laptop – Times of India

Microsoft may be working on a low-priced laptop with the education sector in view, primarily, as per a report by Windows Central. The new laptop is reportedly codenamed Tenjin, features an 11.6-inch display with 1366 x 768 pixels resolution and is powered by an Intel Celeron N4120 processor. The laptop is said to pack in 8GB RAM.
As per the report, Microsoft is attempting to bring down the cost of the product as low as possible to make it more affordable for students and suited for bulk buying for educational purposes. It has an all-plastic exterior but will have a full-sized keyboard and trackpad, one USB-A port, one USB-C port, a headphone jack, and a barrel-style AC port, says the report.
The report claims that Microsoft may launch the Tenjin laptop under its Surface Laptop brand, and could name it “Laptop SE” where the “SE” could mean “Student Edition” or “ School Edition”. The rumoured Tenjin laptop may fall under the $400 price level and could be announced by the end of this year itself, claims the report. However, there has been no inkling by Microsoft regarding this laptop for now. We will have to wait for the official company announcement if there is going to be one.
The report added that Microsoft is also working on a special Windows OS for the low-priced PCs. Speculated to be called “Microsoft SE”, the OS will be built for low-budget laptops from the company and focus on “special optimizations, tweaks, and features built for education establishments deploying low-end hardware.”, says the report.
