Microsoft reveals new mouse made from recycled ocean plastic – Times of India

Microsoft has revealed a brand new computer mouse that is made from 20% recycled ocean plastics and a 100% plastic-free, reusable box at its Surface event on Wednesday.
The most disturbing and evident impacts of ocean plastic pollution are visible amongst aquatic species. There are aquatic species including seabirds, fishes, whales and turtles mistake plastic waste for prey and ingest the highly toxic ocean plastic, others get entangled and are suffocated to death. Most of them die of starvation as their stomachs are full of plastic debris.

This product will play a hand in reducing ocean plastic pollution, claims Microsoft.
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella promised that the tech giant is aiming to produce zero waste by becoming carbon negative and water positive, at its last Surface event. He also mentioned that sustainable changes have been made across the material options that are used for products and packaging.
Nadella said, “If you’re serious about innovation, you must also be serious about accessibility for everyone, and the sustainability of our most finite resource — our planet.”

In 2020, Nadella pledged to make Microsoft carbon negative by 2030, with a vision of undoing the greenhouse gas emissions that the entire company has released throughout its lifetime by 2050. Microsoft has continued to be carbon neutral since 2012.
Microsoft has set a goal to replenish a lot more water than the amount used by the company. This will make it water positive if they achieve the target.
The Microsoft campus at Silicon Valley has an on-site rainwater collection system and its own water treatment plant. So, the non-potable water on this campus can be drawn from recycled resources. This will help the groundwater levels to replenish.
Microsoft also revealed the Surface Duo 2, the Surface Pro 8, the Surface Go 3 and the Surface Laptop Studio at the same event.
