BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Mid-South Conference announced its 2022 softball All-MSC teams and individual honors on Thursday.
Freed-Hardeman’s (Tenn.) Sophie Dunavant was named the MSC Softball Player of the Year while teammate Brittany Adair earned Pitcher of the Year honors. Lindsey Wilson’s Eillie Derrick was voted as the MSC Freshman of the Year.
Freed-Hardeman’s Todd Humphry was voted the MSC Coach of the Year while Kaylyn Graham earned Assistant Coach of the Year honors.
Dunavant led the Lions with a .446 batting average and recorded a team-high 54 RBIs. She was second on Freed-Hardeman with six home runs. The senior tied the Lions in extra base hits with 27. Dunavant’s 54 runs driven in are tied for the most in the conference and rank ninth in the NAIA while her batting average ranks fourth in the MSC.
In the circle, Adair appeared in 17 games posting a 13-0 record while recording two saves. In 94-1/3 innings of work she has allowed just 36 hits with an ERA of 0.96. Adair has struck out 167 batters and opponents are hitting just .115 against her this season. Nationally, she ranks second in strikeouts per game (12.4), seventh in batting average against, ninth in ERA and ninth in shutouts with seven.
In her freshman campaign, Derrick appeared in 35 games for Lindsey Wilson. She is tied for the team lead in home runs with 10 and ranks fourth on the Blue Raiders in runs driven in with 29. Derrick’s 10 home runs also rank in the top 10 of the MSC.
Humphrey and Graham led the Lions to a 45-3 record and 28-3 record in the MSC to capture their first conference title. Freed-Hardeman enters the conference tournament has the No. 1 seed and they have won 13 consecutive games.
Twenty players earned first-team all-conference while an additional 20 mor were named to the conference’s second team. Thirteen players earned honorable mention honors.
The player of the year, pitcher of the year, freshman of the year and all-conference selections are voted on by the coaches. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own players.
