Milkha Singh health update: India legend’s condition is stable, confirms hospital spokesperson

Former Indian sprinter Milkha Singh, who was admitted to Chandigarh’s Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Education & Research (PGIMER), on Thursday is in a stable condition, confirmed the official spokesperson of the hospital.

In a statement, the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) said that Milkha is better than Thursday when he was brought to the hospital with dipping levels of oxygen.

Meanwhile, Milkha Singh’s wife has deteriorated with progression of disease and increase in oxygen requirement. She is presently on HFNC and NIV intermittently

“On the basis of his medical parameters today, his condition has been observed better and more stable than yesterday,” PGIMER’s official spokesperson, Prof Ashok Kumar, said.

Milkha Singh was rushed to the Hospital of Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) after his health deteriorated on Thursday night. He has been suffering from Covid-19 since May 20.

Kumar said that Milkha is being closely monitored by a team of three doctors at PGIMER.

PM Narendra Modi expressed hope that Singh will be back soon to bless and inspire athletes, who will be participating in the Tokyo Olympics, government sources told news agency PTI.

Earlier in the day, Milkha’s son Jeev too said that his father was stable and thanked the PM for calling his father.

“Many thanks to Prime Minister@narendramodi for taking time out of his busy schedule and call dad to find out about his health,” Jeev said in a tweet.

Milkha Singh is suspected to have contracted the Covid-19 infection from the house help who had tested positive for the virus. His wife had earlier tested negative for the virus when the others in his family contracted the virus.
